FFWD on 16 March 2026, the third generation of the Tyro presented, a carbon wheelset weighing 1,575 grams and a price of €1.099 aimed at riders who also use their gravel bike seriously on tarmac. The set is available immediately via the webshop of the Zwolle-based manufacturer.
The renewed Tyro combines a rim height of 45 mm with an external width of 31 mm and an inside width of 23 mm. The 45mm stands out for a gravel-oriented wheelset. Where many gravel wheels opt for lower profiles, FFWD is consciously focusing here on speed on flat gravel sections and asphalt connections. The 23mm internal width makes for broad tyre compatibility. 25 to 45 mm believable: narrow all-road tyres get a straight sidewall, whereas wider gravel rubbers remain stable at lower pressures.

More all-road than pure gravel
Within the FFWD range, the Tyro clearly shifts towards all-road. For pronounced off-road use, the brand offers the Drift, a dedicated gravel wheel set with hookless rims, thicker spokes and room for tyres up to 60 mm. On the other hand, the premium road wheels from the Ryot– en RAW-line, with carbon spokes and CeramicSpeed bearings. The Tyro sits in between, as a versatile carbon option without the premium components that drive up the price.

With this, FFWD is targeting riders who want to be able to handle both paved and unpaved roads with one wheelset. The combination of an aerodynamic profile and wide tyre compatibility fits that ambition, even though a rim height of 45 mm says nothing on paper about actual aero performance or crosswind behaviour.
