Cervélo launches all-rounder with new Caledonia-5

Today, Cervélo launched the new Caledonia-5 launched. We think it is an all-rounder. One that is good for 'big, stupid rides', as the brand itself says. Whether you're training for an ultra like Transcontinental, Badlands or Sverigetempot. It doesn't matter. The Caledonia-5 is your playmate.

Top bike

Since the introduction of the Caledonia-5 in 2020, lots of cyclists have discovered how great these adventures can be. 'Stupid rides' are ready for a new level, and the 2024 upgrade of the Caledonia-5 is just the thing. Similar to the upgrades to the Áspero, Cervélo has chosen to include improvements for when you're pushing the limits. So not when you're doing a round of Leersum MTB or touring in the Achterhoek. No, at the real thing, that's where you notice the difference

Storage pocket included

Almost a hygiene factor in this segment is an integrated storage compartment in the frame. An upgrade over the previous edition. You can't store a complete bag in here, but you can store a multitool, inner tube and CO2 cartridge. The weight of this compartment has been kept as low as possible and it does not close on the frame, but on itself.

A symmetrical design was chosen, allowing you to mount the bottle cage upwards, so there is room for two bottles. You can also turn the door upside down, giving you a lower centre of gravity, although this way there is only room for one bottle.

That's a choice you make, but perhaps you could use the smaller Camelbak water bottles here. That way, while maintaining aerodynamics AND saving 40 grams of weight, you can make it totally worthwhile.

What else you need to know:

  • The geometry, fit and internal cable routing have remained the same but the standover height has been lowered by 10mm
  • Extra fine: +2mm tyre clearance - room for 36mm tyres. 34mm when mudguards are fitted.
  • New headset cap, which allows you to adjust the handlebar height without moving cables. So you can easily add 15mm of stack.
  • Handlebar mount for navigation has been moved down and forward. This makes it more aero and allows room for a larger unit.
  • So that you then have the brand new Hammerhead Karoo with the Red AXS kit comes as standard is almost logic.
  • The wheel set included is RESERVE's own brand, the 42|49 variant. The bike has been tested on this and the wheels have been used in Paris-Roubaix and the Giro d'Italia, among others. So it's fine and if something does go wrong, you get a lifetime warranty.

We started this post by saying that the Caledonia-5 is an all-rounder. That makes sense because Cervélo always opts for aero and it is no different with this bike. So you can enjoy long tours, fast group rides and wonderful adventures on this. The good made better. At least, according to its maker. More soon!
