Italy's Colnago has once again raised the bar. Colnago introduces the brand new Y1Rs, completely in the style of and developed in collaboration with UAE Team Emirates. This bike marks a completely new chapter for the brand. Combining radical aerodynamic innovations with a striking design, the Y1Rs promises significant performance improvements.
A new standard in aerodynamics
With the Y1Rs moves Colnago away from the idea of one all-encompassing model like the V4Rs. This new bike is designed as a pure aero machine, perfect for faster races. According to Colnago, the Y1Rs is "the most aerodynamic UCI-compliant road bike in the WorldTour." With an impressive saving of 28 watts compared to the V4Rs at 50 km/h, and 8 watts compared to the nearest competitor, this bike is positioned as a gamechanger.
The bike introduces a distinctive Y-shaped handlebar, which not only minimises drag but also increases stiffness by 16%. Together with an innovative bayonet fork and a narrower frontal profile, Colnago claims a 19% reduction in frontal drag compared to the V4Rs.
The radical design: A mix of form and function
The Y1Rs is distinguished by a revolutionary seat tube cluster. The seat tube is disconnected from the seat post, providing greater flexibility and comfort. In addition, this configuration contributes to a smaller rear triangle, improving both aerodynamics and pedalling efficiency. Colnago admits that the seatpost has to be cut to size precisely, with only limited adjustment space of 1.5 cm.
Innovative integration and practical applications
The bike also includes smart, practical details. The integrated bottle cage in the down tube provides space for a standard 500ml bottle and houses the Di2 battery in Shimano configurations. The frame includes a threaded bottom bracket, a nod to ease of maintenance, despite the high-tech aero focus.
