Clothing and accessory brands are known to come out with special items around the Tour de France. They are often new product introductions or are Tour specials, for riders in the peloton. For the Tour de France Femmes, too, you see this phenomenon emerging. Very cool, if you ask me. French accessory and clothing brand Ekoï is also joining this trend. During the Tour, you could see the Ekoï Racing Magnetic Limited Edition sunglasses purchase. Not only limited because of the numbered packaging, but also innovative because of the magnetic lenses that you can easily replace. We got our hands on one of these limited editions and you can find our review here
The packaging alone is stunning
In a previous review, I wrote that first impressions matter a lot. Especially if you have a premium product in the market, you can't send it in a cloth bag or plastic. This limited edition Ekoi Racing Magnetic is a picture for good reason. It is sent to you in a very luxurious box, which is also numbered. Inside the box you will find nice storage compartments for all five different lenses. There is also a microfibre cloth with a can of cleaning spray. So you'll never have greasy fingers on your glasses again .
Particularly easy
The glasses are a limited edition because they have a new kind of handiness. Easily interchangeable lenses. You get five different lenses with these glasses.
- a transparent lens for bad weather
- A coloured lens for cloudy weather
- A blue lens for sunny weather
- A pink lens, also cat 3 for sunny weather
- An orange lens, cat 2, for spring weather
You snap the lenses out of the sturdy frame with a simple click and then click the new lens e rook back in again in no time.
Other matters of interest
The glasses have sturdy white legs with a soft black end. The glasses lean on your ears and clamp well against your head. The nose bridge can still be adjusted, but actually fits right away. The lenses are thus easily changeable. We're talking less than five seconds for a change. Easy-peasy.
Use
We tested the glasses with all kinds of conditions. In bright sunshine, you do need the cat. 3 lenses, the blue and pink ones help very well against the bright light then. You do notice that the orange lens is really a bit lighter, so if it's full sun, it's better not to put it in the frame.
We have not tried the translucent lens, but it does what it is supposed to do: protect against something in your eyes and against driving wind.
The glasses stay on well, although they do tend to slide slightly forward. That said, it does not slide off your nose. Especially for people with a large head, like me, the glasses are of an excellent size. You have nice wide-angle vision. For ladies or for gentlemen with a smaller head, they may seem a bit big. I don't find that a problem, but that's a matter of taste.
Earlier I mentioned cleaning. With the microfibre cloth, you can quickly wipe greasy fingers off your glasses. The included spray is nice, but often not necessary.
So buy it!
Why would you want these glasses? Well, simply because they are a beautiful addition and because they are so versatile. The only downside, though, is that when you go on holiday, you have to take some kind of jewellery box with you. Now, the price of these glasses is also €339.99, so it can rightly be called a gem. That box is well worth the contents.
