The new Canyon Aeroad has been launched. It is the biggest update to the frame since 2020. In the meantime, there had been one minor tweak, namely the 2023 seatpost clamp. Anyway, it was time for a new racer. This has become it and it is the new 'love affair' of MVDP, yes indeed, Van Der Poel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

More aero - so faster<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

All-round powerhouse. That was the aim of the developers at Canyon<\/a>. It had to be better than the previous aeroad, the fastest in the peloton, Mathieu had to be able to ride it at Roubaix and then also in consultation with mechanics and riders. There were more than 50 (!) So many opinions, so many wishes. Quite a task, but it looks like Canyon succeeded. The big difference is actually in the details. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Better feedback - but still comfortable<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The contradiction in this sentence is peculiar. Because 'direct feedback' by default means that you feel the bumps and everything in the road more. Shifting the seatpost clamp, placed higher in the frame, fulfils the requirement for more direct feedback. But for comfort then, compensation had to be made and at is reflected in the seat tube, which looks different. Combine that with the seat tube, seat stays and seatpost being slightly different (read: shorter) and voila!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pacebar: the flagship on the new Canyon Aeroad<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The showpiece on this new bike is the Pacebar. An innovative handlebar that is no longer, like many other handlebar makers, one complete cockpit, but consists of different parts Key points addressed by this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • You can attach all kinds of accessories via the GearGroove system<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • You can mount different brackets and adjust the stem length. Hence the acronym PACE: Performance Adaptive Cockpit Ecosystem<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Improved aerodynamics and ergonomics and customisation options\n

    • So it's also easy to replace all the parts, as you don't even have to adjust the brake lines or disconnect the brake levers. <\/li>\n\n\n\n

      Roubaix Proof<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Making a good Roubaix bike is quite difficult. At least one that strikes the best balance between comfort, speed and also stays in one piece. That's where Canyon has put a lot of work. How can you tell that this bike has improved on the previous version?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • The frame has been reinforced. A small piece of titanum has been added to the front fork. This reduces friction with the steering head bearings (which are now also ceramic). <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • The choice was also made to close off the propeller shaft mounting points (on the drive side, that is). <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • A small rubber layer has been made under the front fork. If you take the bike apart, you can now put it on the ground with confidence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Finally, Canyon has revamped many of the screws in the frame. All screws are now made of titanium and feature a Torx 25 head. You get a little lever to loosen them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Stronger yet lighter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        Weight has been saved. 40 grams compared to its predecessor to be exact. The frameset (frame, fork, seatpost and handlebars) of the CFR model now weighs 2,070 grams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Many options<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        The new Canyon Aeroad is available in six different varieties. Add to that the fact that you have three different colourways, with the choice of (single) electronic gear sets. Then you have a lot to choose from!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        • The entry-level model: SRAM Rival AXS eTap with DT Swiss ARC1600 wheels. It retails for a sloppy \u20ac4,199<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • The top model is fitted with SRAM RED AXS and has the distinctive Zipp 454NSW wheels. \u20ac10,499 and then it weighs just 7.15 kg. \n

          • It is notable, though, that the Dura-Ace Di2 variant with DT SWISS slippers weighs only 7.07 kg. If you're going for the lowest weight, this is your choice. And it saves five hundred ekkies too. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
