That frame accommodated 42 mm tyres and was aimed at sporty riding on dirt roads. The <strong>Palta II<\/strong> (2021) added the Paradigm integration system, refined aerodynamics with Kamm-tail tube profiles and increased tyre clearance to 45 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Palta III is some 140g lighter than its predecessor, a reduction of almost 15%. Basso deploys the stiffest fibres around the bottom bracket and chain stays to increase power transfer, while the front has been kept more flexible for more comfort and control on bad road surfaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The geometry has been tweaked. The stack is higher and the top tube has more slop, with an eye on long rides, while the geometry remains race-oriented. That extra sloping has another side effect: more exposed seatpost, which combined with the <strong>3B Clamp System Gen II<\/strong> provides extra damping. That patented clamping system uses an internal elastomer to absorb vibrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the higher stack, the Palta III remains closer in geometry to a fast gravel racer than a relaxed bikepacking platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Open standards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The move to a <strong>T47 threaded bottom bracket<\/strong> is striking. Whereas the Palta II still used a PressFit 86.5, Basso now opts for a screwed system. Advantage: less chance of creaking and easier bearing service, also for home mechanics. The <strong>SRAM UDH<\/strong> makes the derailleur hanger universal and available everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Palta III is compatible with both mechanical and electronic drives, in 1x and 2x configurations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/cyclingreview.nl\/en\/new-sram-red-axs-group-launched\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1007\"><strong>SRAM<\/strong> Red XPLR AXS and Force XPLR AXS<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/cyclingreview.nl\/en\/shimano-expands-gravel-groupset-with-new-2x12-grx-di2-groupset\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"989\"><strong>Shimano<\/strong> GRX 820 (mechanical) and GRX 825 Di2<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Campagnolo<\/strong> Ekar GT<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For the cockpit, Basso offers a choice of two integrated handlebars and a classic stem with separate handlebars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Storage space and tyre freedom<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>New for the Palta line is a storage compartment in the down tube, closed with a carbon flap with <strong>Fidlock<\/strong>-closure. It holds two waterproof pouches for tools, CO2 cartridges or a tubeless plug kit. This keeps the centre of gravity low and allows extra storage space without a saddlebag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The increased tyre clearance, from 45 mm to 52\/50 mm, makes the Palta III usable on rougher terrain than its predecessors, such as sand strips, loose ground and more technical gravel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Availability<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Palta III<\/strong> is available immediately in three colourways. Upon registration within 30 days, Basso offers a five-year extended warranty on the frame.
