From 1989 to 1994 Castelli already made the Tour jerseys. Greg LeMond won his second and third Tour in those years, Miguel Induráin his first four of his five. Under Maurizio Castelli, the brand even had the jerseys designed by the Italian artist Mario Schifano.

Then things went wrong. In 1995 he died. Maurizio Castelli Suddenly, at the age of 47. The company was in serious trouble and went bankrupt in 2003. The Cremonese family and the MVC Group took over the brand and gradually rebuilt it. Castelli therefore considers the return to the Tour to be very personal.

Steve Smith, responsible worldwide for the brand, calls it ‘a historic moment in the 150-year history of Castelli’.

Our perspective

A beautiful story about a brand that almost disappeared and now returns to the biggest race in the world. For Santini, the loss of the yellow jersey is a big blow. For the fans, the most exciting moment is October 22: we’ll see what the Castelli yellow jersey looks like, and whether the scorpion fits well on it.

More about Castelli

Tested: Castelli Perfetto ROS gloves

Santini and the UCI are preparing 41 small cycling nations for the World Championships

Santini brings De Vlaeminck's Brooklyn team back

All our news and reviews about Castelli

Source: Castelli Cycling, story ‘The Road Back to the Tour’

Castelli will become an official partner of the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes from 2027 onwards.
