With storage bag, but without the gas can, the gas burner weighs only 94 grams. Ideal if you are bikepacking and need to watch the weight and packing volume of your gear.

When folded, the gas burner easily fits in the palm of your hand. The Micron Trail has 3 fold-out legs, on which you can place a pan, and a thread on the bottom to connect a standard gas can. The burner can be used on almost all types of screw cans, and I bought one from Primus itself. The gas can fits perfectly into a lightweight pan, and the gas burner sits (with the folding arms folded) in the included storage bag. So you have a light and inexpensive set to use during your adventures.

Folded up, the gas burner barely takes up space in your pannier

The storage pouch you keep the gas burner in

In use

The Micron Trail is easy to use. You screw the stove onto a gas can, unfold the folding arms, turn on the gas and light it with the igniter. In a few seconds, you have the burner up and cooking.

The regulator allows you to set the flame larger or smaller. Ideally, the regulator is foldable and the handle of the regulator is long enough. This prevents you from having your hand too close to the flame. This also makes the regulator easy to use when there is a pan on top. It also keeps the gas flow even, so you don't get a smaller flame when the gas bottle is almost empty or cold.

Despite its low weight, the gas burner is strong to use. Primus says the burner can boil a litre of water in less than 3 minutes, using a Primetech pan, and although I didn't reach the 3 minutes it came pretty close.

What do I think?

The Primus Micron Trail is a light, compact, fine and easy-to-use gas burner. Ideal to take with you on your next bikepacking adventure, if you are travelling alone or with two people and want to boil water, brew coffee or make meals on the go. Even combined with a small gas bottle, the total weight is not much more than 200 grams, making it a fine kit for those who want to keep the weight of their backpack or bikepacking bag low.

€49.95 including electric ignition (piezo), excluding gas bottle.

Primus Micron Trail gas burner

If you want to cook while bikepacking, bring a gas tank and a gas burner

Ik geloof niet dat ik ooit zo’n lichte gasbrander heb gezien.
