Garmin launches the Edge 1060, The Edge 1060 is a new top-of-the-line bike computer with a built-in microphone and speaker. With “Okay, Garmin,” you can monitor your heart rate while riding, switch screens, or send a message about the road without taking your hands off the handlebars. The Edge 1060 costs €899.99 and lasts up to 20 hours in intensive use, or up to 60 hours in battery-saving mode.

Hands-free during your workouts

Voice control is especially useful when you need to use your hands: in the middle of a interval, on a descent, or in a group. Ask “What is my heart rate?” and the Edge will read it out. Training notifications and navigation instructions are heard through the speaker, and with the Garmin Messenger app and a paired phone you can send and receive voice messages. The bike bell is also digital and comes from the speaker.

Training on dates

Under the hood are the training features from the Garmin Human Performance Lab: real-time stamina, power guide, cycling ability and course demands. With these you can see along the way how much fuel you have left and how to best distribute your power over a route. New is an interactive workout display: you can view the upcoming blocks of your training and zoom in and out on the entire session.

Training schedules and recovery

With Garmin Cycling Coach, you can create a personalized plan that adapts to your performance, recovery, and the demands of a specific route. If you use TrainingPeaks, your workouts will automatically sync to the Edge. If you wear a Garmin watch or the CIRQA Smart Band, your recovery and health data from outside of cycling will also be included. You can also add strength training to your schedule.

Driving together and the rest

  • Group Ride detection: The Edge sees an active GroupRide nearby; you get messages, live locations, incident notifications, and mutual challenges (with paired phone and Garmin Connect).
  • Buttons and touchscreen: extra buttons for rain and gloves, and a start screen that you can customize yourself.
  • Navigation: route options based on time, elevation meters and type of bike, route previews, Up Ahead for cafes and restrooms, notifications about road closures and Free Flow Routing with minimal stops.
  • Reverse charging: The Edge charges a Varia lamp or your phone (with a suitable USB-C cable, not intended for charging while cycling).

In short

  • Service: Touchscreen, buttons and volume control
  • Battery: up to 20 hours intensively, up to 60 hours in savings mode
  • Training: real-time stamina, power guide, Garmin Cycling Coach, TrainingPeaks sync
  • Consulting price: € 899,99

Our perspective

Stone-based training sounds like a gimmick, but anyone who has ever searched for the correct data page on a small screen in the middle of a interval will immediately see the usefulness. The question is how well it works with wind and road noise: Garmin itself says that performance depends on the conditions, and that voice commands work in selected languages. Which languages that are, is not stated in the press release. The training features themselves are largely familiar from previous Edges; what is new for those who train is the interactive workout screen. Weight and screen size are not mentioned by Garmin yet.
