GIANT UNVEILS NEW TCR WITH FOCUS ON SEAMLESS INTEGRATION AND OPTIMAL AERODYNAMICS AND EFFICIENCY

The tenth-generation TCR is lighter, stiffer and more aerodynamic than ever.

TCR ADV Black-Palomar

Giant, the world leader in cycling technology, has introduced the tenth generation of its iconic collection of TCR race bikes. Building on 28 years of history, the new TCR combines the legendary riding experience with more system integration and new construction techniques to make it faster than ever.

TCR in three series

The new range of this proven racing machine includes three series - TCR Advanced SL, TCR Advanced Pro and TCR Advanced - and is the result of a collaboration between Giant's product developers and in-house aerodynamics team and the athletes and engineers of Team Jayco-AlUla, Giant's partner WorldTour team.

"This tenth-generation TCR illustrates where we have come from and where we are going as a brand," says An Le, Global Marketing Director at Giant. "Since the very first TCR changed the look and feel of modern road bikes, we have continued to develop the product and bring ground-breaking innovations to cycling. That is the DNA of Giant as a brand - we are pioneers and creators, always looking for new frontiers and never satisfied with the status quo. The 'Generation X' TCR embodies that mentality. It offers first-class performance in terms of aerodynamics and efficiency, but above all is designed to give riders a real edge."

Back to the 90s

The first TCR was introduced to the Spanish Team ONCE in the 1990s. Today, the riders of Team Jayco-AlUla work closely with Giant and they also provided their input for the latest version of the tenth generation.

"We were able to try out the new TCR during our recent training camp in Spain, and I'm really impressed," says Filippo Zana, who won a stage in last year's Giro d'Italia. "It is a great all-round bike and will be a top choice for many different types of races, from the one-day classics to the tough mountain stages. I can't wait to hit the road with this machine."

INTEGRATED AERODYNAMICS

The tube shapes of the latest TCR have been designed and developed using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling. The entire system including frame, fork, cockpit and WheelSystem has been refined in the wind tunnel using a dynamic mannequin. While most brands use a static mannequin, the dynamic version more accurately reveals the aerodynamic effects of pedalling motion.

The frame, wheels, cockpit and other key details of the new TCR range have been designed, developed and tested as one integrated system. The most radical update from the previous generation is at the front of the bike, where the down tube, head tube and cockpit components have been thoroughly redesigned for better aerodynamics and tighter appearance, without complicating adjustment and maintenance.

OPTIMALISATION

The redesigned fork has a new crown and accommodates tyres up to 33 mm. The aerodynamic shapes have been developed in line with the down tube, which is also shaped differently for better airflow. The OverDrive Aero head tube, used in the TCR Advanced SL and Advanced Pro series, is combined with a Contact SLR/SL AeroLight stem and a Contact SLR/SL handlebar with internal cable routing. The new handlebars have a flattened top and slightly raised edges around the hoods to help riders maintain an aerodynamic stance. The compact geometry and slight flare of the drops make it easier to move the hands from the top to the brackets - and vice versa. The TCR Advanced uses semi-integrated cable routing with the Contact AeroLight stem and Contact handlebars.

New systems

The new TCR has different seatpost systems depending on the series. The TCR Advanced SL features an integrated design that saves 40 grams, improves aerodynamics and offers more flexibility than the previous generation. The TCR Advanced Pro and Advanced use the Variant seatpost, which offers more convenience during adjustment but also has a shape integrated with the frame for aerodynamics and flexibility.

Most TCR models feature the recently introduced CADEX Max 40 WheelSystems or the all-new Giant SLR 40 WheelSystems. These WheelSystems have been developed and tested for an optimal balance between efficiency, control and overall aerodynamic improvement. The WheelSystems are tubeless-ready and equipped with CADEX or Giant 28 mm tubeless tyres.

WINNING EFFICIENCY

The TCR Advanced SL remains the flagship and has been developed with several state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques to make the frame one of the lightest and stiffest in its category. Thanks to so-called cold blade technology, less material is needed, reducing overall weight. Most of the gain in stiffness comes from modified parts of the head tube, down tube and bottom bracket.

The end result is a no-compromise road bike that delivers explosive acceleration and unwavering pedal rigidity. The new TCR Advanced SL frame has an aerodynamic advantage of 2.28 watts over the previous generation. The all-new TCR Advanced SL 0 has an aerodynamic advantage of 4.19 watts over the previous generation.
