The Ventral Air Lite lives up to its name; the helmet is amazingly light. Weighing just 220g in size Large, you hardly notice you have it on. POC has cut away materials on both the outside and inside of the helmet wherever possible, creating a minimalist helmet that delivers top performance.
Unlike its heavier brother, the Ventral Air SPIN, the Lite version does not have the SPIN system, a safety feature similar to MIPS. This has been a conscious decision to further reduce weight, making the helmet extremely suitable for those for whom every gram counts while cycling.
Design and functionality
Upon receipt, you immediately notice the premium packaging, complete with a protective pouch for the helmet. One downside is the presence of two loose stickers meant for the 'eye garage', a clever feature for storing your glasses. These stickers do cover a bit of the inner lining, which could have been better.
Comfort and adaptability
Comfort is crucial in a helmet, and the POC Ventral Lite does not disappoint. The helmet is comfortable, easy to adjust using the dial, and does not cause irritation points during longer rides. Moreover, ventilation is excellent, thanks to the aerodynamic design and large vents. A side benefit of making this helmet as light as possible. That does mean that in winter, you should always have something like a cap or a buff (or a klakske) on your head to keep out the cold.
With a price tag of €270, POC positions the Ventral Lite in the higher segment. This price is justified by the high-quality design, excellent performance, and comfort this helmet offers. Yet you could argue that for the same price, you could also get a helmet with extra (SPIN/WAVECELL/MIPS) protection.
