CADEX Aero Cotton: new premium racing tyre for speed and efficiency

CADEX With the launch of the new Aero Cotton took a serious step into the world of performance racing tyres. Developed for top performance in races, time trials and triathlons, this tyre combines low rolling resistance, high aerodynamic efficiency and a refined ride feel. The Aero Cotton is optimised for use with hookless rims, specifically in combination with the CADEX WheelSystems.

Aero profile for hookless rims

What immediately stands out about the Aero Cotton is its aerodynamic profile. The tyre has a higher sidewall and an oval shape that perfectly matches the rim flange of hookless wheels. This creates a smooth transition between tyre and rim, which CADEX says results in less turbulence and lower drag at high speeds. The design is tailored for use with hookless rims such as the CADEX 42 and 65 WheelSystems, making the whole thing function as an integrated aero-system.

320 TPI carcass and RR-S2 compound

At the heart of this band is the 320 TPI Cotton Race Casing. This carcass provides an extremely smooth ride feel and precise feedback from the road surface. Compared to nylon carcasses, cotton feels more direct and moulds better around small bumps, leading to less energy loss.

For the compound used CADEX the new RR-S2 silica compound. According to its own statement, it delivers a 30% lower rolling resistance up compared to the previous RR-A compound, without sacrificing grip or durability. In particular, the combination of smoothness and low hysteresis in the tread contributes to faster acceleration and higher average pace.

Grip and puncture protection

The Aero Cotton has a smooth centre section for minimal friction at speed, combined with micro-textured tread shoulders for extra grip in cornering and wet conditions. For puncture protection, a Race Shield Kevlar® patch, which is subtly incorporated under the tread to counteract cuts without compromising ride feel.

The band uses a hybrid carbon-zylon bead, which is both strong and lightweight. This bead provides a stretch-free fit, essential in tubeless hookless systems, where airtightness and safety at low pressure are important.

Practical test: Tour of Flanders

The Aero Cotton was already deployed at the 2025 spring classics. Team Jayco AlUla rode with them during the Tour of Flanders - a tough test for any tyre. Despite the rough conditions, the tyres proved reliable and performant. For a tyre focused on aerodynamics and speed, this is a major plus.

conclusion

The Aero Cotton is not a compromise tyre. It is light, tight, fast and developed for riders who know what they want: aero gain, low drag and WorldTour-level responsiveness. Combined with CADEX wheelsets, it is a logical choice for those for whom every watt counts. The price is hefty, but in line with the segment in which this tyre positions itself.

For race days, time trials or crits, this is probably one of the fastest tyres you can put under your bike in 2025.
